Tesco Credit Card - Owe Them Money, But THEY Can't Tell Me How Much?!!

in Credit cards
Tried to login to the Tesco credit card site tonight, it wouldn't accept any of my login details which I have used for years and forced me to re-register for their new online service. Which I can't use until they send me a temporary password in the mail.
I don't get a paper statement - they removed that facility some time ago.
Phoned up to pay using the automated service; kept being asked for a six digit security number. My security number is 4 digits and has been for years. So couldn't get through.
Eventually got put through to an operator, who told me that the account is now locked until I receive my passcode, he couldn't tell me what my balance was, what minimum payment needed to be made or when it was due. I pointed out that if I paid an insufficient amount, I faced interest, charges and a black mark on Experian. He tried to tell me that all this would be refunded, the black mark on Experian would be removed, yada yada yada. I've heard all this before. Once all the interest and charges go on, you have a devil of a time trying to get them back and in the meantime you face interest on the interest and charges.
HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?? I just want to pay my bill, but because of some stupid upgrade which I didn't initiate, I could end up missing the payment due date altogether.
Apparently all this is my fault, because I MUST HAVE requested online statements at some point in the past (NO) and I MUST have ignored the warnings to upgrade my security when they first began the migration 3 weeks ago (I have no recollection of any such warnings when I last logged in about 5 or 6 weeks ago).
How can such a ridiculous state of affairs be allowed to happen? And I'm the one whose credit rating will ultimately be ruined by this. I've made some pretty big purchases on the card recently, so even the minimum payment is likely to be quite hefty.
I have absolutely NO IDEA what to do and Tesco can't - and won't - help me.

Bloody ridiculous yes. You shouldn't have to account for their c0ck up absolutely not totally with you on this.
Nevertheless make a payment from your bank account to your credit card for an amount you know will be sufficient (i.e. overpay rather than underpay) to make it all the easier to clean up later.
And once you get your security details through log a formal written complaint.
They should be able to go through alternative security questions over the phone to authorise you. That they didn't is a severe failing.Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

They obviously did not learn from the !!!! up when they migrated their savings accounts. Funnily enough Santander are the only ones I have not had major problems with.0

It's a long time since I banked with what is now Santander, and certainly prior to them becoming the behemoth that they are now - however, they were certainly less hassle than Tesco Bank proved to be..Never argue with an idiot. Especially not this idiot because I'm always right anyway.0

I had the same re-register nightmare about two weeks ago. Eventually I got back on the Tesco site but it made me re-register my debit card to make a payment to my Tesco credit card - Then it said my bank had declined payment. So I registered a different debit card with a different bank and got the same message! Tried phoning Tecso - what a bloody nightmare. Even tried paying by phone but was still rejected!
I know both my debit cards are OK and I have money in the bank. It was all OK until Tesco made me re-register.
I have written a snotty letter to Tesco.:eek:0
