Feeling rubbish :o(

Having a rubbish day. Went to the ENC in Nottingham today to officially get dd's diagnosis and they confirmed she has an ASD (PDA). They were talking about how they reached the decision, going through her younger years etc and I burst out crying. I'm not sure why I got so upset because I already knew everything they were telling me but hearing them say it just got to me.To top it off they explained that they'd spoken to the head EP the day before (who had just finished assessing dd) and he says she has specific learning difficulties too namely dyslexia amongst other things.

My poor girl, I feel so sorry for her. Maybe now ppl will start to listen and give her the help she desperately needs. Enc said although school have let her down badly he remains optimistic that once they see the report and exactly whats wrong with her and why she is the way she is (and not just the naughty kid they think she is) they will help more.....I disagree, ive already explained pda to them and their reaction was it was a poor excuse and they will not and cannot put in more support so when she gets her statement I shall be pressing to change her school.

The good thing I guess is that both ENC and EP think she will be best off in a mainstream school. They said its like tough love but mainstream although wont be as supportive and protective as special school, will prepare her better for the big wide world. I know whats they're saying is right but I feel like she's been through so much already I just want to protect her from anymore hurt. Feeling very low today....really not sure why because I knew all along she had pda and learning difficulties but I cant seem to stop crying

i am glad you finally got the diagnosis you needed and hopefully all the help you and your daughter need.

you are probably feeling a whole range of emotions at the moment , relief, anger , sadness, just to name a few.

i know when my son was dianosed with aspergers, i felt really sad for him but a year later we are just focusing on all his positives

Good luck to you both x

aw bless you both, I feel it maybe partly relief at being believed/confirmed if that makes sense.
Take time to adjust/accept and push for any help for you both.
    Best wishes to you.

Take time for all of this to settle in your mind. For sure you will not be the first parent to burst into tears when they finally get a diagnosis for their child so please don't worry about that.

We as parents frequently think what might have been for our children if this or that hadn't happen but the best support we can be to our kids is too love them and be a support through any difficult times and that is what you are doing.

:grouphug: Dodgy cyber hugs for you.

I had a similar moment last week - sometimes it's hearing (or in my case reading) everything in one go - it overwhelmed me and I broke down too.

    Hope today's better for you.
Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j

If all else fails, remember, keep calm and hug a spaniel!
