DLA for stress incontinence.

Pads are relatively cheap and easy to dish out compared to paying out for catheter parts. There is a solution to my incontinence that the NHS won't provide for cost reasons, they just give me a pads allowance. I had to fight to get a pad designed for night use for overnight as the NHS wanted me to be happy using a day one, it's all down to cost.
Never underestimate the role of finance in the NHS and the ability of GPs and specialists to ignore better options because of the costs involved.0 -

Im very lucky their because I have the highest funding possible, I have never waited for anything eg, a wheelchair/powerchair over the the time it took to order because I am of the highest need, the same is true for every other treatment I need.0 -
My husband, like many people, should have been on oxygen a couple of years before he was given it - all down to money. LTOT is expensive and the b uggers who do get it live longer. Double financial whammy!0

It also depends where you live, the waiting lists and how long they take to do the paperwork. My husband was given a manual wheelchair very quickly (within days) but he has to wait 16 weeks to get his powerchair despite being a bilateral amputee (and he only has use of one hand so it's impossible for him to propel himself in his manual chair). I've ended up getting him a mobility scooter so he can get himself around until the powerchair arrives.
Did you go to the James Cook Disabled Services Center for his assessment ang? I live in Durham too.
Thats where I go and I can try a wide range of 'chairs, cushions and accessories before chooseing what I want and then the only waiting is the time it takes to order, deliver and set up. Dont forget to ask for any accessoried hes needs such as a fitted tray if it will help him with meals, hobbies etc. or a headrest.
Has his manual chair been adjusted to compensate for the loss of weight from his leg? It should be checked if it hasnt.0 -
Have a look at MyShreddies dot com. We got a few pairs for my partners daughter who had got to stage of wearing nappies 24/7
They've worked really well for her and wash well too.

On another note and I'm not sure if you have to be in receipt of DLA but you could apply for a discount on your water bill as households who need to use extra water due to your issue often qualify for a concession/discount.0
