And this is what's wrong with this country.DFW Nerd 0350

I took out my credit card and loan with halifax.
Halifax knew i was unemployed and on benefits when they gave me credit.
They kept on increasing my credit limit on my credit card which i didn't want; they automatically did this every time i paid the minimum payment.
When i took the credit card out in 2006, they knew i was unemployed and set my original credit limit to around £1000.
It is now around £9000, and i have a debt of £3,500 on it.
As with the loan, i took it out last year.
They let me have it no questions asked; they didn't even ask me for proof of my benefit income.
As a result of this lending by halifax, i am now on an iva.
Can i argue what the bank did by lending me credit i am unable to pay back was irresponsible and do i have a claim against the bank!!??
I would ignore the other replies you have received,You are quite within your rights to have all your debt written off and a substantial amount of compensation paid for all the stress and trouble you have been put through.;)0 -

Did they automatically make you spend it too? When i took the credit card out in 2006, they knew i was unemployed and set my original credit limit to around £1000.

But they didn't make you spend it, did they?As a result of this lending by halifax, i am now on an iva.
No, it's as a result of your irresponsible borrowing. Can i argue what the bank did by lending me credit i am unable to pay back was irresponsible and do i have a claim against the bank!!??

The OFT don't handle individual disputes, presumably you mean the FOS who do.0 -
This is how the thread should have read.
Irresponsible spending - I've continually spent over and above my means, taking credit wherever I could find it. Despite knowing i could not pay it back can the bank file a complaint against me for irresponsible spending? I feel i should be held accountable for my loose attitude to spending!0 -
Not this thread again! LOL
The only good thing about this is the IVA - This will stop those nasty lenders ever wanting her as a customer again.0 -

I have a question for the OP:-
Would you go in to currys and shoplift a tv, laptop, etc?
To my mind by borrowing and spending money that you clearly know you cannot afford to pay back and have no intention of paying back in full, that is exactly what you are doing!!!!
YOU borrowed it, YOU pay it back!!!!!!!
Sorry to sound harsh but that's how I feel about this type of post!!!0 -
The mind boggles.
Troll?Mortgage 1: May 2012 £90,000 April 2020: £47,000
Mortgage 2: £270,000😱 Jan 2019 £253,000 April 20200 -
Alternatively, and not taking anything away from the OP, someone at Halifax sold this, someone checked and approved it, someone probably got a bonus for it, all to allow someone with virtually no income to default and not pay the money back. You've got to agree that is an unusual level of talent that we need to retain.0
