It's not a feature. But due to SAFTEY they are designed to do this.

You do research before any purchase (at least I do) so your aware of the advantages and disadvantages of the items.

If you purchase a glass table you should be aware of the manufacturing and its disadvantages.

If you want a non exploding table buy one that is enclosed by wood with wood backing, so it's only a pane of standard glass and not safety glass.

I just realised this thread is going off topic, so to live up to what I posted the other day, (and to keep somethingcorporate happy) heres a relevant gif.

Errr... did anyone suggest that no-one should get upset?

Tina, what is your advice for the OP?

And just remember that if you accidentally smash the non safety glass, you'll be left with edges that will be easily capable of cutting an artery.

I see nobody picked up on the train of thought I instigated. :)

If ONE of a SET of tables exploded (i.e. the tables were sold as a SET), then should OP get a refund for ALL the tables?

    this is an interesting thread..

people are saying dont buy glass tables... ?

theres millions of glass tables made every year?...

this is one of the only ones iv heards of 'exploding' and im pretty sure the OP hasnt heard of it to often either.. hence the post.

my suggestion is ask for compensation for time loss (dealing with them) and cleaning.

if no compo, just take the full refund and call it a life lesson..

Shattering M&S glass tables have been brought up on MSE before as have shattering glass oven doors.

Safety glass does shatter and it does do it in a spectacular fashion, however it does not produce shards as it just granulises. Thus there is no harm to people when it does this.
