Croatia Flights - help needed!

Hi There,

Just looking for some advice really..

I'm going to a festival in Croatia at the end of august. Its in a place called Pula where there is an airport but because its quite a small place and there is a massive festival there the flight prices are ridiculous!

The festival itself is 30th Aug - 2nd Sept and we would like a day or two either side too. Ideally flying from the midlands but prepared to travel if it makes it cheaper - at the moment the cheapest i can find is around £200 and I'm wondering if I would better waiting until nearer the time to see if they drop.. or is that unlikely with high demand that weekend?

There are airports nearby like Trieste and also the venice airports but I can't seem to work out how I would get from there to Pula itself so not sure if that is worth the hassle...

I know someone who went last year and said the flights did drop the week before but I can't help thinking that waiting would be a massive risk...

Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated !

Thanks in advance guys :)

Amy x

Check online if there are any ferries from Venice to Rovinj.

I've done the drive from Trieste to Rovinj and it is Ok. Hertz will let you hire a car from Trieste into non-eu Croatia.

You could fly out cheaply from East Midlands to Zadar with Ryanair. There's a cheap catamaran from Zadar to Pula. Maybe return Trieste to Birmingham.

We did that last summer. Got stuck in a massive traffic jam between Koper and the Croatian border, but once in Croatia the motorway down to Pula was superb, and empty. There's a toll but it's not much about £4 or so I think. Late August probably won't be too bad though as there'll be less Germans with their caravans.

ETA: if you do this, get an international driving licence (about £5 from the Post Office). Don't think it's mandatory but it was strongly recommended for Slovenia and Croatia as the police can apparemtly get funny if you don't have one.

From Trieste you can get a bus from the airport into the main bus station then onwards to Pula every few hours.

There's also a catamaran that goes from Trieste to Pula which is slightly quicker - check out Trieste lines website. Pula is Pola in Italian. From Venice you can get a bus to Pula that takes 6.5hours or the ferry which takes around 3hours, or take the train from Venice to Trieste then onwards.

    Have fun :D

If it is Outlook festival in Croatia, they are running buses from the nearest airports, including Venice (not sure if main or marco polo though), and there is the party buses from London and Manchester if you wanted to have as long of a journey as possible!

if you check on the outlook site there's the list of how much the transfers to/from various airports are. If you factor in another £32 each way for transfers to/from Venice, it seems quite expensive, so may be worth checking the options mentioned and make your own way from the airport using public transport.

My son is going - he's working in the set up the week before and then gets a refund of his ticket price. We've got him cheap flights from Stanstead - haven't organised flights back yet as they're quite expensive, but decided the important thing was getting there!!:)

    Good luck.
