National Windscreens chip repair?
i have a chip on my windscreen with 2 small fine cracks coming out of it, my insurance is fully comp so repairs are free with national windscreens. they came to repair it this morning, i wasnt sure if it would be repairable because of the location (drivers view) but he said he would look and see. off he went then came back 10 minutes later saying it was done. the chip is still just as visible though, although the 2 small cracks are not visible from the outside anymore, they are from the inside.
should it still be as visible after repair? i am worried that when i go for my mot they will fail it, or worse i will be driving along and a big crack will appear. if it makes any difference i know sunlight helps 'set' the resin and it is very cloudy and dull where i am today, would this make a difference?
thanks for reading.

I've had windscreen chips repaired that are still visible. If the chip is smaller than a 5p piece then you should be ok. I have one in the driver's view and my car has passed every MOT0

thank you for your reply Shimrod, i just checked the chip again and it has definitely gotten smaller, will check again tomorrow and if i am still unsure i will give my insurance another call to see what they recommend.<insert super cool inspirational sig here>0

It doesn't always make the chip disappear but stops it becoming bigger or cracking.0

and it wont fail the mot so long as its under the 5 p size and not got cracks coming from it
sounds like they dun good to me0 -
i agree with worried jim - i have one done on the passenger side, you can still see the 'chip' but the little lines away from it are filled so it is structurally 'OK'
remember that although you have not lost no-claims and it is listed as 'free', you still need to declare a 'claim' when you come to renew your insurance - painful as it is. It won't be as 'free' as you are thinking!0 -
I smile when I hear all the adverts on the radio, yes it may be free, but wait until you renew your policy with a "claim" on it. Northing's free in this world.0

thank you for the replies, however my question was not about claims on my insurance, it was about the chip repair.<insert super cool inspirational sig here>0

Ask for that in writing!
All claims must be disclosed!0 -
... my insurance is fully comp so repairs are free with national windscreens.....
Although you may not have to pay anything at the time, repairs aren't "free" - the insurer pays for them.
This can impact your premium for 3/5 years!
Next time see how much a local independent will charge (much less than a "national" insurance contractor) and keep it away from your insurer.0
