accident claim against hit and run driver

Hi all,
Someone bumped into my bike and the bike fell on the group. It broke mirror, panels and some other parts
Luckily we have a cctv footage and I manage to recover the footage and get the car number plate that hit my car. My bike was stationary when the idiot’s car rear wheel catched the front of another bike and mine and pushed mine to the ground

I have a cctv footage clearly showing the car hitting mine while my bike was parked and in the bay so no way this could be my fault

After speaking to insurance( mine) they said they can claim on my behalf and provide a rented bike which is insured and ready to go and fix mine. All this at no cost to me or impacting my car/bike no claim bonus and if the worst comes to worst and they could not claim any money from the other party insurance then they will not charge me a penny.

The only way I will be charged is when the bike hired is stolen which makes sense.
Does this all sound too good to be true?

In addition to repairing my bike, my helmet was in the storage box and damaged so can I claim the cost of this as well?

thanks

  • As you have the CCTV and it is not your fault then you should not loose your no claims bonus.

What will most likly happen is that because your bike is probably worth less then £5k your claim will be forwarded to a claims handling company and not get anywere.

What you should do is report it to the Police and get a Police report etc...
tell the other person to report it also
Once you get the police to convict the other party, you will then have a stronger case,
This was a hit and run.

Most companies deduct NCB if you have a claim.
Yours might be one that doesn't.
Personally I'd ask for them to confirm that in writing or an email.

It's not normally included in a standard policy, so you wouldn't normally be able to claim that off your own insurance. It's called an uninsured loss. Often helmets and clothing can be covered by an optional extra, so check whether you paid for that.
P.S. If my motorcycle helmet didn't withstand a fall from 4 ft inside a topbox, I wouldn't be wanting to buy the same type again !!!

Alistair - most comapnies deduct NCB for a claim regardless of fault.
It's usually who pays that counts not who's at fault.
Of course this comapny may have a different policy, but I'd want it confirming.

Where on earth does this come from ???
Many motorbikes are worth a lot more than this.
Once you get the police to convict the other party
That's not a given. They may be untraceable, unidentifiable etc.

they confirm 3 times that this would have no impact on my ncb, the calls are recorded so they should have a record of it.

if the guys has banged into my bike and ran then there should be no way that they can convict me or deduct from my ncb

btw, my helmat was scratched and not structurally damaged

in regard to my bike price it is 2 k but still i have paid for it so this is no reason for them to say that they don't pay me because it is less than 5K, is this really a rule ?
i wouldn't think it would be otherwise anybike worth less than 5k can choose not to be insured

do you guys know how long my claim would take ?
