Equifax credit score doesn't match report?

Hello all
I'm planning to get a new credit card in a couple of months when my 0% interest deal runs out so I did a credit check with Experian, Equifax and Callcredit.
Noddle gave me 4/5, Experian rated me 'Excellent' but Equifax (who made me pay for the credit score, even though I had signed up to the free trial to get the credit report) only gave me 'Fair' or 394. In the credit score bit, they said to review the 'risk signals' to find out why it wasn't higher. But I got good or excellent for each of the risk signals that they gave me.
So - why do I only get a 'fair' score from them, will it affect me and if so, how can I improve it?
Thanks all very much - and this is my first time, so if this is a stupid question, please be gentle.

You really should ignore (and definitely not pay any money for) credit scores.
They are a con. Each lender uses their own acceptance criteria which are not disclosed.0 -
Since neither are actually lending you money, it doesn't matter IMHO0

As above.
The scores are different because each of the credit reference agencies have decided upon their own criteria to integrate into their scoring system.
The same counts true of all the creditors on the market - they all decide which aspects of a credit file and applicant's profile they consider important, and which not so much, which will differ from lender to lender, meaning you will look appealing to one, and not appealing to another.
There's no such thing as one score fits all so ignore these scores and as advised, don't waste any more money on themCashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48
