Pre-Employment Credit Check for Bank Job

Hi Everyone,
I have been searching online and have come across mixed views.
I have been offered a job with a main Bank however they haven't said yet it is subject to credit checks etc however I know it will be from what a few people have said to me.
I have a clean record other than 2 defaults which I am not paying off and in control of.
One is with Lloyds Bank-£3000 and the other with Littlewoods-£900.
The defaults show as being paid off and I can provide letters from the two agencies that I am up to date with my payments.
My credit report on Experian is rated FAIR with a score of 759.
I think on the forms for new job they will ask me about my credit history? Do you think it is best to be upfront about the defaults? I did run into terrible financial difficulty last year but I am now paying them off.
My partner has even offered to clear the defaults and I know it will only then say "Default Satisfied" however this does take a month to reflect on credit report and they are probably going to be doing the checks in the next week.
Do you think I stand a chance in still being accepted for the job... :-( It is honestly my dream job and would do anything to try save it.
I have no CCJs/ Bankruptcy etc...
Anyone who can shed any advice or has had a similar experience please let me know. Thank you

Honesty is always the best policy. The bank could get your permission to run a credit check and if it did this and found out you'd not been honest I doubt you'd get the job. You might also consider adding a note to your credit report to explain the circumstances behind the defaults and that you're now clearing them. This would appear on any check and might help your cause.

I'd definitely declare it gabriella. It may not be good news but at least you'll know up front and will of been honest with them.
They may well take your honesty as a positive on your application.
Best of luck0 -
Thanks guys- I meant to say in my one paragraph-
"Which I am NOW paying off and in control of"... I didn't mean to say NOT:exclamati
Definitely going to be upfront about it... Thank you Experian guy- what do you think I should say in the notes on my credit file? Exactly what I sort of said earlier? Just wondering if you could advise a more formal wording?0 -
Sorry- how do I add a note to my credit report? Will this reflect instantaneously? thank you0

I used to be an employment screener and Barclays was one of our clients.
We would credit check every candidate on Equifax and Experian, which would check for CCJs and bankruptcy. Make sure you answered every question on the application form correctly because if there is anything which is found to be untrue, it's a black mark.
However, I wouldnt give information that you haven't been asked about.Barclaycard: [STRIKE]£1042[/STRIKE] £433.41 (me) [STRIKE]£996[/STRIKE] £580 (ex-OH)
Target spend per month: £750
Current overspend: £130/month:eek:
Student loan: £[STRIKE]24,384.42[/STRIKE] £23,243.180 -

@faceuptoit... The job is with Barclays! Do you think having 2 defaults will be picked up on or only CCJ's and Bankruptcy?
THANK YOU!X0 -

I wouldn't like to give a definitive answer as I can't remember, however, my initial thought was that we checked for CCJs, bankruptcy and whether the candidate was on the electoral roll.
However, we did use both reference agencies - so I'm wondering whether defaults did show up? I remember the Barclays application had a long list of yes/no questions at the end about credit history. Did you answer all of those correctly?
Also - you will definitely be screened. Everyone is screened and the credit checks are the most basic check, so everyone is subject to them.Barclaycard: [STRIKE]£1042[/STRIKE] £433.41 (me) [STRIKE]£996[/STRIKE] £580 (ex-OH)

I used to work for Natwest and they ran a credit check on me before offering the position. They picked up debts, etc but were only interested if it looked like no action was being taken. If you're taking control and making payments then they're likely to look on this pretty sympathetically.0

I haven't actually got the forms through as yet but will be answering them all honestly when I do.
Also when I moved into my new place in November it was around the same time Electoral Roll had just happened so literally this last week I sent a letter in to the council to be put on Electoral Roll. I wasn't on it on my prev address I was at for 10 months but on all my other addresses I was.
This should update again only within 28days I believe. I sent the letter last week to Richmond Council and from reading on Experian site this will again only reflect in 28 days.
I could again possibly explain this. I didn't realise how important electoral roll was hence why I never did it at my last address.....
Thanks for you help0 -

Don't worry too much, they'll probably just ask for paperwork to show past & present address. They're not going to credit score you, just check your report to make sure there's nothing to indicate past or possible future fraudulent behaviour. They're not trying to trip you up, they clearly want you to pass their checks as they've offered you the job so I'm sure they'll be very helpful0
