"lost payments" from one account to another

Hi there MSE forums,
I'm posting this up on behalf of my flatmate (she is yet to discover the awesomeness of MSE). our landlord is a little big dodgy i think. one of her rent payments left her account and (apparently) never made it into the landlords account. she checked with her bank and it had the right sort-code and right account number. they said that sometimes this happens (I work in IT and used to do IT at a bank, i very very much doubt this, but recently my bank has made some mess ups).
she has been into the bank a few times now and wasted a fair bit of time. does this sound like something other people have experienced?
(to give you an example of our landlord we don't think he's put our deposits in the TDS)
Thanks all,
Buswell

You can check for yourself with the deposit schemes whether your deposit has been registered with one of them.
You're right to be sceptical of the bank saying "that sometimes happens" if you are certain that the correct sortcode and account number were used. Your flatmate should ask them to do a trace, but I would be quite surprised if it didn't go to exactly where she sent it.0 -
thanks agrinnall. regarding the TDS, I've dealt with enough landlords I'm sure I'll be alrite (if not I'll make a seperate post! :^)
but regarding the lost payment, exactly i thought that must be ridiculously rare unless there's a bug in the software. maybe with like website login software (e.g. natwest on another post of mine) but not with standard payment software. that must be almost failproof0
