Renting out a property in negative equity when you have no experience as a landlord would be the most foolish thing in the world to do, even if it was going to be possible. Which it isn't0

i think part of our problem is that we have three quite young children (7,4 and 3), so are kinda between a rock and a hard place... in that it wouldn't be feasible to split out forces, as they still need care..
Firstly i want to say thank you all sooo much for taking the time and effort to reply... you have genuinely helped us... this is such an emotive subject it's hard to keep a rational head on your shoulders.
I would have hapily handed my keys in this morning... but you have all helped us see that it was just the heart talking
i am currently an at home mum, but our current thinking is to get us both into full time employment, get my youngest into daycare (which hurts) and just kick this negative equity into touch, we are super mega budgeters in our day to day stuff.... so every last thrift gained penny can go to getting us down to see him more often while also helping us into a better financial possition
Here's to hoping he lasts the year till we can actually make a difference, we are still dead set on moving... but as awful as it is we are begining to accept that we just can't..
thanks guys...... please keep the input coming though..... miraculous/bright ideas still gratefully received!0 -
Is your Dad in private or Local Authority rented accommodation?
If LA (and in the unlikely event that his place is suitable for your family long term) it may be possible to get the tenancy changed into your name. Most LAs permit this once. This would enable you to hand back the keys without having to go through credit checks to rent a new property.
I know that its a long shot, but can't think of another way out.
Whatever happens I wish you luck. Its an awful situation to be in."When the people fear the government there is tyranny, when the government fears the people there is liberty." - Thomas Jefferson0 -
What a horrible situation for you. Don't know how much help this will be, but is it perhaps worth having your house valued by a couple of estate agents (telling them you want to price it for a quick sale)? Zoopla's estimates are notoriously rubbish - it undervalues our house by around 20% - so it's possible your situation might not be as bad as you fear.0

Most have a freephone number hence nothing to lose?
A cash buy company will probably double the negative equity.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -

Is it a full-moon, or is it just one of those days where there are a number of posts on different threads where the posters are just being nasty to others?0
