final bill - 7 months later!

moved house 7 months ago and gave edf my meter reading on the day I moved house. Only just got my final gas bill, very annoying! can they really leave it this long?

    They can, they can also chase you for payment up to 6 years.

    You could just as easily have chased it up and paid it over the phone if you had wanted to get it out of your hair so to speak.

    i chased it up about a month after moving and they told me it could take up to 6 weeks. after about half an hour on hold I got through to someone, they have sorted it out so I can pay it back monthly, they initially said on the letter the balance was due by 2/7 which I thought was a bit cheeky after taking so long to bill me. Heyho all sorted. thanks

    Yes and no.

    They should have complied with their own trade association requirements, so there may have been a technical breach to have explained 6 weeks and taken 7 months (without further explanation).

    "1.3 Your supplier will provide a final bill within 30 working days of the supply end date. Where this is not possible the supplier will provide you with an explanation as to why the bill has not been issued."

    Payment terms that you accept is however a satisfactory remedy.

    It states 6 weeks in SLC27.17 as well.
