The only supplement I'd suggest is a high dose of Vit D3. For the simple reason that you are NOT going to get enough sunshine while you're stuck in bed.

Thanks to everyone for your replies -sorry for the delay in responding. Sadly there appears to be no miracle cure! I have been off work now for a few weeks through using up overtime and self-certifcate, but am now signed off by my GP. I have never felt so tired in my life, nor spent so much time sleeping.

A couple of weeks ago before realising that it was GF I joined a gym thinking I just needed to exercise more to boost my immune system, I spent about 30 seconds on a bike before feeling awful and leaving - and i'm not that unfit normally!!

I have a busy job involving child protection work, it's so relentless that I can't imagine being at work right now. I have the odd tiny burst of energy which lasts no time at all, I like the journal idea, it's easy to feel you'll never feel better again!

Has anyone found supplements or any natural remedies helpful?

    Thanks again :)

I'm taking several herbs including echinacea
    A good multi vitamin
    A high quality multi mineral
    Lots of vit C
    Some green veg daily
    Fluids of course
I drink an Ensure Plus daily that contains loads of vit & mins

My Avon business (of 9 years) is kaput - cannot conceive of continuing, I was struggling before GF.

For no reason, my glands mushroomed last night and I just dreaded waking to another relapse today. But I feel not too bad. Mornings are definitely the worst for me and I improve as the day goes. BUT I've been literally lying on my bed for 4 weeks now.

DO keep a journal, it keeps you sane!

Have wierd, vivid disturbing dreams every night plus was getting night sweats.

As much as poss just deeply accept the situation, don't fight it, I'm convinced this will really aid a deep healing.

Take paracetamol to get you through the worst patches. I've succumed even though I'm not a drug taker.

    Hang on in there......

Edit - key is keeping immune system strong. Keep sugar consumption to a minimum.

Thanks that's really helpful. I too am already taking a range of vitamins and supplements etc, so useful to see what you find helpful.

I think I have passed the night sweat stage, am still getting very cold in the day, followed by periods of being really hot.

Tiredness wise there's no particular pattern other than that i'm sleep whenever I lie down to rest, and I'm finding it very difficult to get out of bed first thing, but my energy marginally improves midday followed by a decline as the day goes one.

I'm hoping the acceptance will fit in nicely with the copious amounts of mindfulness practice i've been doing, though that's somewhat fallen by the way side recently with feeling like this.

Hope you start to feel better soon

I had it at 16 - i'm 32 now and have never been the same, I get run down and tired so easily and catch everything going. My immune system is shot. I will be watching this thread closely to see if anyone has any tips. You just need to rest!! I wish I could rest more!

    Hi Racheldevon,

How are you doing? Been thinking of you as I languish pretty much bedbound (nearly 5 weeks now).

Have you got results of blood tests? I only had mine done y'day, so have to now wait for results.

I keep having relapses - glands going up and down and bodily aches and pains. Then there's the lack of strength and stamina...... The ghastly 'ill' feeling has definitely lessened, but so slowly.

Anyway, do hope you are improving. XX

    Hi,
sorry to hear you're still feeling very unwell. I haven't much improved either. However, my bloods have come back clear - so I'm now unsure why i'm feeling so unwll, I still seem to have most of the glandular fever symptoms. I continue to spend a lot of time in bed, feeling very tired with no energy, temperature fluctuating between very hot and cold. I'm due to go back to my GP on 16th July, but have started seeing a herablist on the advice of the man I see for acupuncture, so i'm hoping that may help. Hope youre blood tests provide some answers for you x

Anyone else have it as a child? I was one of the rare ones who had it at 6/7. So long ago that I can't help with advice. It does take a long time to get over though if you ever fully do but give yourself the best chance by resting, sleeping and eating well.

    Hi,

My original blood test for GF also came back as clear but I sure as hell had it and it took a very long time to recover from, not helped by not getting any advice to rest well and twice as long as you think you need to and very gently phase activity back in. 25 yrs later, I had another test and I tested positive for having had GF then.
Don't think you aren't ill just because of the blood test and had better 'make an effort' to get back to work or whatever etc. Follow all the advice on here.

I'm another one that was never the same again:(. Both very shocked and slightly comforted that I am not the only one, though I wouldn't wish it in anyone.
However OP, many people do get over it in time, don't let us frighten you, just follow all our advice!
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

I had glandular fever when I was 16/17 and studying for/ sitting my highers. It was awful and took me ages to get over, was at least a year before I was back to " normal".

I had wondered whether it was possible to have it, and for it not to show on the test, I wasn't sure if there was an optimum window for picking it up on the test..so I was glad to read that this appears possible. Difficulty is it makes me feel like i'm making it up, and my own GP is going on leave for most of the summer, so I have to see another one to try and get more time off work from mid July, who i'm worried won't believe me. Ii'm clearly not well enough right now, and from what everyone on here has said it may take some time yet. I know if I return to trying to work 40 hours in a high pressure/stress environment i'm going to be really struggling, so will have to think about how to explain it again to the next GP I see.
