    VNC, by the way, works over the network, not through monitor cables. You need to have both computers connected to a router, wired or wirelessly. If you can plug that XP machine into a monitor ONCE, you can allow whatever connection it is you desire, then leave it 'headless' again. I think that would involve you buying a VGA-DVI adaptor, which you could do for £1 on eBay.
