So, prior to installing a Samsung 830 256Mb SSD in my main laptop, I decided to first try it in my netbook, an HP Mini 210-2000, Win 7.
So, I installed Norton Ghost and the Samsung setup/managment software, then plugged-in the SSD, ran Ghost, followed the prompts to duplicate the entire disc and I now seem to have am SSD with no data and an HDD with two recovery partitions, C and F drives that won't boot.
All I get are the messages:
"Remove disks or other media.
Press any key to restart"
And when pressed:
"No bootable device -- Insert boot disc and press any key"
In the meantime, both system restore and the HP Windows recovery utillity seem to run without problem, till the reboot, when it kicks back to the above message.
Can anybody suggest how I might get beyond this?
Thanks in advance.

ask Norton for help, since you're using their software...?0

The last time I phoned Norton was not a particularly helpful experience!0

And now "Nathan" seems singularly unhelpful!0

Have you checked that the partition that it used to boot from (presumably the one corresponding to the C drive) is still flagged as bootable?
You can see this (and set and unset the Boot flag) with a LiveCD partition editor like GPARTED.
If Ghost has wiped your MBR, you may be able to recover it with Super Grub Boot Disk or Rescatux, but use both with caution. I have used the former to recover a Windows MBR before, but they are primarily designed for use with Linux bootloaders.0 -
I have it - Yes, Ghost had created this extra partition and set it as primary.
Once I got the disc out and hooked-up to another machine, it was straightforward to remove the partition and reset the correct one to its proper place/size.
After that, it booted-up fine, with only minor grief and a few reinstalled drivers.
I think I'll forgo Ghost for the moment and go back to Arconis - much less hassle!0
