Changing annual holiday insurance companies whilst away

Currently have annual travel insurance that came with our house insurance. Renewal is in a few days time when my son (over 18) will be away on holiday. He is covered under this policy.
We are likely to be taking out annual travel insurance elsewhere, so when we renew the house insurance won't be going for the "extra" policy that includes annual travel insurance.
Obviously I will make sure that there is no break in cover, but wanted to check if there was any problem with being insured with 2 different companies during a holiday.
If there is, is the cheapest solution to take out a single trip policy for this holiday or is that an unnecessary expense?

You cannot start cover during a holiday.
So either start a new annual policy now, or get a single trip policy to cover him before he departs on the holiday.0 -

Thanks.
I never realised that it was a blanket no. In the past we have gone for a renewal while we've been away and renewed but as a new customer (due to lower price) with the renewal date being while we are away.
The new policy comes with a bank account and I'm not sure of the start date of the bank account upgrade, I'll phone to see if they can start it quicker

Thanks that is important.
I've just checked that. As soon as my bank account changes over to a black account I am automatically covered without needing to register. Just checked online and my account name has changed to black.:jI'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
