Acer Laptop Keyboard Confusion!

Options
Hi, I bought an Acer Aspire 5349 lapto from Comet nearly 2 weeks ago and am confused about the keyboard. The signs on the keys for symbols don't all produce the symbol that they say they should. For examle, the numerical key no.2 ought to show an @ sign when pressed with shift, but instead produces " marks instead.

This is really frustrating as today when trying to work from home the backslash key is producing the hash symbol instead and despite pressing every button possible it appears there is no backslash on there. Very annoying as I need it to log into my works remote desktop and had to use the on screen keyboard instead.

I'm not sure if this is an American style keyboard, as the symbols aren't all in the same places as I'd expec them to be. However, when looking at the keyboard settings in the control pannel apparently it is using an English version.

I'm rubbish with computers so if anyone can advise me on this I'd really appreciate it. Feel somewhat let down with this purchase as I'd at least expect the right symbols to come out when pressed and not for something different to appear. It's not very user friendly.

Doesn't sound like it is fitted with a uk keyboard, try changing to US keyboard in control panel - on a uk keyboard, the £ sign is above the 3, if you have a hash instead, it's not a UK keyboard.

Does raise questions why they are selling laptops with US keyboards in the UK - possibly previously repaired and fitted with the wrong keyboard, or badly sourced? I would have returned it, if that's the case.

Thanks, just gave that link a go but from looking at the settings it already states they are set for the UK.

Just tried this as well and it makes no difference. The backslash key is still producing a hash sign. Instead of having a £ sign on my 3 it shows #, but when pressed with shift does produce a £ sign.

I think I ought to take it back to the store and ask about this. It's only a cheap laptop but from what you have both said I don't think I should be having this problem.

You've got an american keyboard fitted, backup your data, factory restore it using acer erecovery, wipe free space with ccleaner, and take it back for a refund or replacement - or ask them to fit the correct keyboard.
