                    Hi everyone,
We booked our holiday for next summer and I have just this week found out that I am pregnant. We have paid a small deposit of £250 and the rest of the deposit it due in ariund 5 weeks now which is £450.....
We are unsure of whether we will be able to afford this holiday now, as it was going to be a stretch on our finances as it was.....
When we tried to transfer our holiday a couple of years ago due to the same problem (how unlucky!!!) First Choice wanted lots of hidden costs for us transferring the holiday to a different one, so we just ended up cancelling and lost all of our money.........
Is there anyway of us getting our deposit back? Can we take out travel insurance? And cancel through that?

If you are taking out travel insurance after the event, then no.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
No you cannot take out travel insurance after an event has happened and then try and cancel. I am staggered by the amount of people that seem to think this is an option!0

In any case no travel insurance policy covers 'disinclination to travel'. It would only pay out if you did not know you were pregnant when taking out the policy and your pregnancy prevents you flying on the dates of your holiday.0

Havn't you figured out what's causing it yet? :eek:0 -
            Thank you for the replies.......
I don't need any sarcastic comments though... This was a total shock for us to find out and we couldn't believe how unlucky we have been for it to have happened twice.... We hadn't planned to have anymore children, so it hasn't come as a nice surprise......
I was just wondering if there was anyway that we could recover our deposit money, as we didn't know that this would happen... As I am sure, most people would try to see if they could recover their money if an accident has happened.....January GC £33/200

If you canncelled the holiday, you wouldnt only lose the £250, you are also liable for the £450 as it is part of the deposit.
Is it possible for you to just save as much as you can and economise on things for the new baby, stuff from car boot sales are really cheap these days, sell stuff on ebay etc. Once you decide to go for it you can focus on it.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Thank you for the advice... So would we need to pay the full £450 deposit even if we cancelled the holiday? We tried to transfer the money from a holiday a few years ago and they wanted so much money to transfer it over, that it was just cheaper to cancel it all together....
I was thinking of us just scrimping and saving, but I had worked out that we would need to save £200 per month to get all of the money for it, which will be a big stretch as we will need to do bits in the house before another baby arrives...January GC £33/200

Yes, you will have to pay the balance of the deposit even if you cancel now.
When you tried to transfer your holiday a few years ago how close to the departure date were you? Maybe it was expensive because you were a lot closer to the date of travel? I wouldn't have thought trying to transfer a holiday booked for next year would have been that expensive at this stage - it is definitely worth enquiring in any case!0 -

It was still 5-6 months before we travelled. From what I can remember they wanted another deposit if we transfered it for the year after and they also wanted extra costs for transfering it too.... So we just ended up losing out on the money, as they wanted a date/destination as well as a lot of extra money.....
Thank you for all of your help...January GC £33/200

How about just moving the date or changing it to cheaper accomodation and taking baby with you0
