Handprints on car bodywork

Hope someone can offer some advice. Our car has developed some hand-prints (child sized) around one of the rear doors. I suspect they are from suncream and have so far tried car wash solution and washing up liquid to try and remove the marks without success. Is there anything else I could try. There were some marks on the black plastic trim but they came off with a good scrub with a kitchen scouring sponge but I am reluctant to use that on the bodywork.
Thanks

  • Have you tried using T-Cut on the paint work ? It generally gets rid of surface blemishes pretty well.

Don't use washing up liquid on cars!

T-Cut it back a bit and use some polish to re-shine it. Should disappear with a bit of elbow grease.

then you go deeper than T-cut can, and get some cutting compound. ferracla G3 cutting paste (not scratch remover its a lighter abrasive version of compound)

OP, try some good polish first before resorting to T-Cut, something like Autoglym super resin polish should do the trick or maybe try some tar remover.

agree with neilmcl - try some polishes first and not as aggressive as t-cut which can be hard work and leave micro-lines in the areas you use it.

in my experience, suncream is remarkably difficult to remove!

try a dedicated car polishing website such as detaillingworld for more advice or find someone local who may have a whole shed full of products to try!

Petrol or white spirit will remove suncream if that's what it is.

Thank you all :D I'll give the suggestions a try. Polish first, then T-cut if the polish hasn't worked.
