Simplistic question so apologiesnif initial answer is fairly generic and basic.
Normal process is to accumulate an emergency cash fund of three to six months expenses, and then pay down debt apart from mortgage. If no debt then place money initially into cash isas, and then look at equity isas, this may be your question.
A lump sum and regular savings are a good start for isas, look around the forum for people's experiences with different funds and brokers, you can pay an IFA to provide recommendations if you wish. Many people like the vanguard funds, alternatively find basic trackers in either uk or worldwide, my view and that of many others is that equity income funds look good currently as you can get yields of five or six percent from big companies with potential fair capital growth, and losses of course.0 -
Pay off debt, save an amergency fund (in that order) as above.
Then invest. In a pension, or in a S&S isa or both. Drip feeding into either, you smooth volatility. But you need to look at a platform with low charges form smaller investments of your kind as you don't want to be paying 10-15 quid per investment of 150 per month for instance.0
