Tax credits claimants whose working tax credit [WTC] payments were stopped on 6 April 2012 are in the process of being written to by HMRC stating that they may still be entitled to WTC and they should contact HMRC as soon as possible to reinstate their payments.
HMRC were not able to identify those people who came within any of the exceptions, and did not tell claimants that they needed to contact HMRC to ensure their payments continued. If you are in one of the groups you should automatically receive a letter. The letter also explains that clients not covered by one of the groups may be entitled to claim other benefits, such as income-based jobseeker’s allowance, housing benefit, council tax benefit and free school meals from DWP, if you have increased your working hours, one further change is that couples will for the first time be able to claim tax credits to cover their childcare costs.
