in Credit cards
Hi guys Im in need for a bit of urgent advice.
I had an email from Barclaycard saying my direct debit had been returned and therefore my minimum payment wasn't paid. On my statement i have now had fees added and the statement is saying that next month I will be charged interest even though I should be on a balance transfer deal for another 6 months. The return supposedly happened on 11th June. I didn't recieve email till today (20th June) and have had no phone contact from them.
My bank account (santander) had sufficient funds in on the 11th June and days eitherside so I don't understand why it would have been returned.
The only thing I recently changed was the settings for my DD on the barclaycard website. Instead of paying the minimum, I changed in to pay a set amount every month. I did this last month so this would have taken effect from this DD that has been returned.
I have sent both barclaycard and santander secure messages as the customer service is now closed, and will call first thing tomorrow. But what could be going on and more importantly, will those charges and interest from barclaycard be reversed?
Thanks

I would just wait until tomorrow and call them, try not to concern yourself with the issue until then.
Be polite when you speak to them and explain the situation as you have done in your post, request that the charges are refunded, the promotional rate reinstated and credit reference agency records are reported to accurately.
Be prepared to send them a copy of your bank statement if required to prove you had sufficient funds available - ideally pre-empt this and ask them why the Direct Debit was returned, it's not always because of lack of funds.
Good luck and let us know how you get on.I was a DFW, now I'm a MFW :T0 -
Thanks for your advice. Obviously this was a big shock today when I opened my email and then looked at my account and I'm worried about it now.
I have phoned santander (my current account) as their customer service is open till 11. They said 'no approach' has been made to my account by barclaycard and that I did have the funds in my account, they can do a back office investigation depending what barclaycard say when i phone them tomorrow.
The whole point of a direct debit is its supposed to be easy! I hate banks I really do.0 -
Exact same thing happened to me,phoned the Yorkshire BS and they confirmed Barclaycard had cancelled the D/D.
I got my life of balance deal reinstated but whole episode put me off the card and I B/T,d the whole amount to a long term 0% deal.
I also got compensation for the phone calls cost.I have a deep burning indifference0 -

Out of interest, what account do you have with YBS that allows direct debits? I thought they only offered savings and mortgages?Cashback Earned ¦ Nectar Points £68 ¦ Natoinwide Select £62 ¦ Aqua Reward £100 ¦ Amex Platinum £48

When did you change the DD? I suspect your last statement was produced around the middle of May. Did you change the DD before or after that date?
Check your last Barclaycard statement. How much does it say will be taken from your bank account by DD? The minimum payment or the full amount? If it says they'll take the full amount, did you have funds in your bank account to pay it?
Organisations have to give noticed before taking a DD from a bank account if the date or amount changes. If your previous statement says they'll take the full amount but they only take the minimum payment it would be a technical breach of the DD Guarantee.0 -

With me,i got a text confirmation of the new D/D which i set up just after the previous month,s payment and the next statement confirmed the amount would be collected by D/D.They still managed to make a mess of it.I have a deep burning indifference0 -
It has been sorted now. Barclaycard admitted that it was a recurring IT fault their end that causes the DD to be cancelled when a customer changes it through the online banking. They reversed the fees and reinstated the balance transfer offers.
I think a letter of complaint is now in order to try and get some compensation for the inconvience.
Thanks for help.0
