I did it once when I was 18/19 and it lasted TWO months and we had to go to a hotel over night also which was a bit scary as they had to 'sweep' the rooms before hand and we didn't get anything to eat till 9pm and then back to the court (Old Bailey) for the next day! It was very hard going but I really enjoyed it. IT even was on the News at Ten and all the papers the next day after the case endedskintandscared wrote: »I would LOVE to do jury service, but never been asked

My OH always wanted to do jury duty. She finally got called up a year ago. However, it was for coroner's court. No juicy murder trial or bank robbery, just a couple of weeks' worth of listening to many cases where people had died in tragic (and contested) circumstances.
She doesn't want to do it again!0 -
I did jury service a couple of years back.
If I am ever up in front of a jury, I really do worry that I will get justice.
Of the case I was in, 4 of the jurors said they could not be bothered and would simply go along with what every one else decided, another two were too thick to understand the details of the case, a woman decided that as the person looked guilty then he obviously was. Then there was someone who spoke 80% of the time and would not bother listening to anyone else. So there were probably only 2 or 3 of us that actually took the thing seriously and impartially.
My employer allowed me two weeks special paid leave for this, however my Ts and Cs have changes since then and I too will get the allowance from the court and would be well out of pocket.0 -
So you think the daily allowance is o.k. for us poor people if we gat called for Jury Service, but not you?0

I was on Jury duty last year and one of the trials i was on was a young 'scally' girl. As soon as we got in the Jury room one old man said she was obviously guilty and sat reading his paper refusing to join in the discussions.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

I would love to do jury service. However as I'm not a British citizen I do not believe I am eligible

I'd love to do it but its during the school hols and £64 a day barely covers childcare for my 2 young children (£56 a day) let alone my loss of earnings. more seriously I don't know how long its likely to last so I can't even book the childcare without risk of being seriously out of pocket.
btw i work from home so I look after them during hols and after school termtime but should I really have to explain this.
for those that think jury service is profitable think again - £64 a day is for out of pocket expenses which are paid out of net salary. to equate it to £33k pa gross is nonsence. earnings also have to be proven so I'm likely to get fkall based upon my last yrs accounts.
enough of the lectures please.0
