Private Selling a Car

Hi

Just after a bit of advice, might sound like a silly question but I want to sell my car privately, I have no idea really when it comes to cars (typical girl in mid 20s as long as it looks nice then im happy) lol

I have a set price that I would ideally like would just like a few pointers that would increase the chances of selling - where to advertise for free? what to say/do when potential buyers what to come and see the car? what i need to do in order of preparing the car for sale? what to do to make sure that Im safe such as test drives etc

Any tips would be great :) Thanks:beer:

Take a look at other cars the same model, age, mileage, history and see what they are advertising for, to give you an idea if your price in mind is realistic with the market...if you click the "completed listings" bit on the auction sites you should see what other cars have actually sold for too.

Not sure the best place to advertise for free apart from the advert in the back window, which rarely works.

Do a classified ebay advert(not an auction), local Friday-Ad, Autotrader, Gum Tree or Pistonheads for a start.

Make sure the car is clean, waxed, hoovered and topped up with oil etc, all history/receipts available to view, answer all questions honestly and don't give them unnecessary or relevant information.

If they want to test drive it then you will need to see a copy of their certificate of insurance that states they can drive other cars (the cover will be Third Party Only tho so make them aware if they bend it they buy it) and sit in with them, never leave them alone with your keys. Maybe have a "body guard" with you too.

    Good luck !
