Hi,

Please can you help? I am trying to run hijackthis however, it states that for some reason my system is blocking it wrighting a log so I am unable to get it checked out.

The reason I need this is due to items showing up on my system I know I never installed so it would seem that something is auto installing different programmes on my system.

Thank you for your help and expertise in this issue. and forgive my poor english as I am autistic.

Sorry forgot to add I have a windows 7 toshiba laptop.

You need to right click it and choose "run as administrator"

If this is an x64 system, HijackThis performs pretty poorly on it. I'd suggest using an alternative such as OTL or DDS

If it's telling you it's unable to write to the hosts file, it's because the file is read only (the default setting since Vista), and you can simply ignore the message. This will not prevent HJT creating it's own log. If the log shows the host file has problems you would need to edit it manually.
How do I add a signature?

Running as admin solves the hosts file problem.
