Funny how their lack of understanding of the "new system" went in their favour though hey? :rotfl:0 -
Actually I think £26K could very well be a failure to understand the contract. Breaking it down, usually practice costs are about 60% so why risk a jail sentence for 11K when your actual contract value is 271K? Dont for a second think the dentist pockets that money by the way nor would they pocket all of that 26. The Sums involved in other fraud cases run in to hundreds of thousands of pounds in fraudulent claims. Frankly this is pocket money sums. When the conrtact came in even the people administering it had no idea. We would phone up with a query one day and get one answer then get a completely different answer the next day.
So until a guilty verdict is passed I will be witholding judgement but saying I really would not be surprised if this truly was caused by lack of understanding0 -
As posted before this is an ongoing case. It concerns two people who if found guilty will lose everything and in addition face a lengthy prison sentence and already will have lost reputation.
They should be tried in a court of law where hopefully all the facts will be known not a public Internet forum where only selected facts are discussed.0 -
They are being tried in a court of law. Here's the latest news. It's not selected facts either but newspaper reporting.

So just to clarify, the nhs paid them £x amount of money in advance, for doing a specified amount of nhs dentistry. If they failed to do the amount specified they would have had to pay the nhs some money back.
They didn't do the specified amount, but instead of giving the money back they fiddled the books to make it look like they had, by pretending that some of the private dentistry they were doing was nhs. Have I got that right?
I wonder what will happen to them now they've been found guilty..
ETA PennyLane, you say one of them was actually your dentist?0 -

Sounds about right. One of them was my dentist - yes. All that money floating around and he could have easily given me a scale & polish on the NHS (it was he who suggested it after all) instead of trying to get me to pay another £45. Oh no, that was probably because he didn't understand the contract!!:rotfl::rotfl:
I hope justice is done.

I can't help thinking that back in the old pre new contact days a lot of this fraud would have been detected a lot earlier. WIth over 400 item of service treatments it meant that we had a whole lot of data with with to set up statistical trip wires and the ability to monitor and verify unusual patterns. In particular it showed up those abusing REcalled Attendance and Dom Visit claims.0

I usually have to wait about 20 mins for my appt - after the appt I have a form shoved at me with a pen and receptionist says "sign here and here" - I think I will ask for a copy to read in the 20mins wait next time, so I know what I am signing
I could probably find it online but hey, I am sitting doing nothing while thereYou never know how far-reaching something good, that you may do or say today, may affect the lives of others tomorrow0
