Single yellow line

I have been issued with a PCN for parking on a single yellow line, or as they say, "parked on a restricted street during prescribed hours" on a Saturday morning. As I stated on my appeal, I have parked there same time and day for the last six months, so did several other people working in the area. A couple of months ago the council decided to putmamdouble yellow line on the stretch where I used to park, so I started to park further behind where there was still a single yeloow line. As I stated on my appeal there is No Sign to be seen all along that street and the rejection letter tells me that " the driver should check the signs/time plates to find what restrictions apply" . I am frustrated as it seems they didn't really read my letter. I have looked for a plate everywhere, none to be seen! At the end of the letter they mention the restrictions, but they might just be written on their system, not on the street!
I called and a very unengaging customer service person told me I can reappear without waiting for a NtO and my case put on hold again.

Does anyone know what should I do? Help please!

Are you sure it's not in a CPZ, where timeplates are not required?

    What's the location?

    1. Do not telephone about a PCN, that was a pointless conversation as you can't prove what they say on the phone and anyway the back of the PCN tells you about appealing now and appealing again after the NTO! You need a paper trail all the time with your appeal so stop phoning them.

    2. It's almost certainly in a Controlled Parking Zone (signs should be a few streets back).

    3. Post about it on pepipoo, where most people win:

Good luck, get over to pepipoo now and include pics of BOTH sides of the PCN and all pages of the reply.

  • Thanks for replying guys, the place is Colombo St in SE1. I will go there at the weekend and look for a CPZ sign. If the sign is there it is something they put just a couple of months ago. And thank you for suggesting pepipoo, I will put things together and post them.

There have to be two CPZ signs at every entrance to the zone (one on each side of the street) unless it's a really narrow road of 5m or less I think.

Instead of randomly looking and guessing where the Zone starts why not check on the Council website or email them in the morning and see a map of the Zone, then go and check that there are indeed double signs at EVERY possible way into the zone? Not just the way you drove there.

Find the missing, twisted or obscured CPZ sign and Bob may well be your Uncle!

Southwark have changed the CPZ's in roads in that area. You used to be able to park on single yellows all day saturday but they recently changed it to after 1230pm

They were a bit sneaky about it as they only put the warning posters up on the posts with the CPZ signs at the start of the CPZ no where else. They did put notes on cars parked in the affected area the week before.

It's for no other reason that to raise revenue as the people parking on the SYL were not affecting the residents ability to park
  • Thank you dacouch, I have just figured this out, there was no chance for me to get that note as I go there only on Saturdays. When you drive regularly through the same places, what's the need to look up to those plates? You just don't expect things to change like that! You are right, they've been sneaky, as it is a little stretch and it would have been easy to put some more posters along the street. I had to pay the charge as I don't think there is any ground for appealing again.

Thank you all for the great support.
