I have just setup a dual boot system of winxp sp3 (first) and then win 7 sp1 (second). They are both located in the same ssd hard drive but in differant partitions.
I have come across two problems(the other I will be posting about after this one).
When in XP I can see both partitions properly but when in Windows 7, I only see the larger Win 7 partition. When I add usb drives they appear in Windows 7 ok. It is only the winxp partition whch can't be seen.
Does anyone know if this is supposed to happen? I can't see why the newer op system appears to be blinder than the older?

I have 4 partitions on my sata drive, triple boot, XP, Vista and 7, can see all partitions in each OS. I am using basic rather than dynamic disks, and using easybcd to create the boot menu.

What are you using and what sequence did you load the OS?

OTTOMH, as I recall Windows Vista and Windows 7 was designed to natively block access to a XP system partition because writing to it from Vista/7 caused all kinds of file permissions and access issues in XP.

I think it depends on the sequence of which OS you install first etc - it is some time since I did it, but I do remember that there was a recommended sequence - if I can find it I will update.

Primarily it evolves around the different way XP loads versus 7 - XP first then 7, then use easybcd to create the boot menu. As I said have had no issues here....

I installed xp first as microsoft always recommend installing the newest last.
The only problem I have heard about is that xp deletes Win7's system restore points. I do not know why I can't see the xp partition from Win7.
