RM lost package?

Apologies, I got to page 10 before I gave up searching for a relevent post 
Sent a package out to my Ebay winner on the 7th of June, still showing as 'In Process' on the tracker system. The other I sent the same day arrived the next day so go figure...
How long do I have to wait before making a claim for a lost package?
And what is the protocol for the buyer? Do we both wait until RM compensate? do I claim the value of the item + the refund to the buyer?
Never happened to me before, and not sure how/what to do.

RM say you have to wait 14 working days before making a claim, but people on here reccomend that you don't make your buyer wait that long, and certainly don't wait til RM refund you before refunding the buyer.
It might be worth asking your buyer to check with their sorting office first, just incase.0
