Switching cars on my elephant insurance policy

Dear All,
First I'd like to say hello (this being my first post) and thank you for providing such a good avenue for help and information.
I have been with Elephant insurance for 18 months now and due to the knackered nature of my current car I was hoping to buy a better one. As I am six months into my current policy with Elephant I did expect that to change the details of the car I would incur some sort of fee, however, I feel that the fee is excessive and wondered if - short of leaving - there is anything I can do.
I pay by installments, which for me is the best option, and I currently pay £77 a month (I passed my test just under two years ago) but to switch cars Elephant claim the new installment would be £144 a month! As I am going from a Fiat Seicento to a Mini I assumed it was due to the type of car, however, after checkig with Admiral, Diamond and Bell (of which elephant is a sister company to all under the Admiral group) I find my monthly premium ranges from £62 - £74; this is a HUGE difference from Elephant. Elephant are obviously spreading the cost of the car change fee across my payments, making the fee approximately £400.
I feel that they have me over a barrel and I don't really know what to do. And yes, I know I pay mothly but to force you into such payments is, in my opinion, pure greed! I would have accepted a £100 fee but not what was stated.
If I'm being honest I feel like taking out one of the sister company's policies and telling Elephant to stick it, however, I know that it's not the way to go about it. They probably share information anyway!
I'll leave it at that. I would appreciate any advice, if any can be offered.
Thank for reading.

hi years ago when we had a kangoo mpv auto we were with them our cost per month was 34 pounds which was great . we grew tired of the kangoo mpv and upgraded to a ford galaxy auto same insurance group
we thought it would be maybe 10-20 pounds more expensive but we were shocked when they wanted £170 a month from us. but heres the thing we did a comparison site search and they wanted only 35 pounds a month to take out a new policy with themall in all they are rip off merchants and it pays to shop around but they know when you have a while to go they can charge you anything they like
