recomendations for hotels on the Rhine

Hi

we are travelling through holland/belgium/Germany and France 20th July - 4th August and would like some recommendations for Pensions/guest houses in Trier/Cochem/Koblenz, and downt he wine strasse, preferably within a short walking distance to a pub/restaurant etc... nothing fancy, basic, but clean and preferably with a bath as opposed to a shower as my partner is disabled.

can anyone recommend anywhere that is reasonably priced?

many thanks in advance

Hi, Just a warning, in 1987 my wife and I went on honeymoon driving around Europe. We intended to get to Austria but once we reached Cochem we parked up and never got any further! The wine was superb, the beer was superb, the people were friendly, the food in all the restaurants was superb. We loved it there and stopped for nearly 2 weeks. We stayed at the Hotel Triton but I have just had a look on trip advisor and it does not get very good reviews, but they had a swimming pool and there was only me and the wife that ever used it.
The castle was good for a visit and they sold a big sausage in mushy peas (my best description) which was gourmet but as cheap as chips.
We often just knocked on the door of winerys and they would take us round for a visit on the spot and let us sample their wines!
We were lucky to get through customs on our way home, our car boot and back seat was full of wine (it really was duty free in them days).
The trips up and down the mosel in the boats were good and you were allowed to keep the fancy Cochem Mosel glasses your wine was served in.
Sadly it was all 25 years ago and may have changed a lot, but as I say we loved it and never got any further!

Just reading your post again and as an afterthought, we arrived late in Cochem on the first day and just pulled up at a house which said Zimmer-Frei (as near as I can remember) and it was a private house which was owned by an elderly German lady, she spoke no English and we spoke no German but we got a lovely double room, really clean and even though we couldn't speak to each other she gave me a real bollocking for not eating all the brakfast she made for me in the morning!
This might be the cheapest nicest option.

Don't know whether it's on your route, but I can highly recommend Christiana's Weinart Hotel in Bernkastel-Kues. It's a small family run hotel with it's own restaurant, very close to the river and a short walk to the town. It's spotlessley clean and the owners are so friendly. They serve and sell local wines and can arrange vinyard tours.

We stayed there last September when we went to the German F1 GP, the area it absolutley beautiful, it's somewhere we'd love to go back to for a longer visit.

We booked it on hotels.de. It's coming up at €90 per night inc breakfast for July, don't know whether it's in your price range.
