New car - profit making extras...

Hi all, I'm struggleing with my google-fu at the moment. Basically my Dad has just ordered a new car - the dealer has kindly added nearly £1000 of extras onto the price of the car...
I've already got the GAP insurance (they were wanting £600!!) part covered and (the guy has reluctantly removed it from the bill) and will be helping him to buy that seperately online (with cashback!).
There are some other extras such as the paintwork and interior protection (superguard type stuff I believe) and alloy proection that the guy has convinced my dad are "really important to have". Now I'm aware that these are super profit making for the dealer, but in the process he's trying to rip my dad off. I also know that he would be far better off paying a professional car deatailer to come to his house and sort all of that out, but I can't find anything online to point my dad towards so he can read about it himself and make his own mind up about it all (and realise how much money he would be giving away on this).
Can anyone help me come up with info to get my dad to read?
TIA

most of the people on here don't like you buying a "new" car - its not moneysaving!
But extras like superguard are usually thrown in free like mats and a full tank
whats the car and what are you paying?0 -
They forget that without people buying new cars there would be no secondhand cars further down the line:D"You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

Dealers NEVER throw supaguard in for free - its a money making extra for them, so they're not going to give it away, plus the salesman is commissioned on selling extras.0 -

RE : Supaguard - its simple really.
Heres the kit for £10.99 on ebay -

The rest is sheer profit for the dealer.0 -
My last new Ford had "free" supaguard" thrown in - so yes they can if they want to

Unfortunately this is all true. It is a high margin sell up. Paint/fabric/alloys protection is a SCAM.
Are you sure the person selling this stuff to your dad was a he? Usually they employ tall legged blondes to flog this stuff for £500 ("normally it's £795"): £50 goes to Supaguard/Ming/whatever, £250 to the dealer and £200 to the blond Supaguard/Ming mole.
Car buyers are way out of their comfort zone when buying a car at a dealership - very tense and suspicious. So when they finally get a "good deal" on that dream set of wheels they feel euphoric, happy, relieved and confident - and that is exactly when they are introduced to their friendly, caring and attractive member of the opposite gender "customer service representative" who quickly makes their wallets hundreds of £ lighter. And for additional £2 a week they will also sell you some genuine fluffy dice and woodgrain chassis.
In for a penny, in for a pound."Retail is for suckers"

it seems the bigger the dealership the more they can get away with too.0

You paid for it, you just didnt know you did.
Chances are they tweaked the discount around a bit and then charged you for the supaguard.
Or used 3M Performance Finish wax instead.
Supaguard is just a £10 car polish with £490 margin on top of it - nothing to get excited about. Well, except from the profit margin of course."Retail is for suckers"
