Natwest Letter

I am writing to let you know that we have recently identified that we have incorrectly applied unarranged overdraft fees and debit interest to your account.

Please accept my sincere apologies for this and for any inconvenience caused. I want to reassure you that we have taken all the necessary steps to prevent this reoccurring.

It's important we correct this so I'm arranging for the amounts detailed below to be refunded to your account within 14 days of sending this letter."

Refund + Interest, got about £100 paid back to me. Nice one Natwest!

    Well done!

I'd be asking them for a goodwill gesture too!

They're in the process of upgrading my account and the branch manager is arranging for me to benefit early (Travel Money benefits) as the upgrade won't complete until after I'm on holiday - so I'll take that as a goodwill gesture.

Seem to be a number of these refunds recently, not very material but welcome nonetheless.

My son has had £300 from RBS at the end of March and I received £91 plus £12 interest from RBS as well. Same letter for both refunds.
Checked back on my account and it goes back to 2008-2010.

It apparently relates to old savings type accounts that allowed direct debits. There wouldn't be any overdraft fees, these are normally referral fees and returned direct debit fees that they have refunded. They have since stopped direct debits going out of these accounts.

Not sure if this contravened something in their T&C's hence the refunds.
  • Hi all, I recently got a few hundred quid returned to me with the same letter referring to 'unauthorised overdraft charges' and I'm curious whether I should chase them for inconveniencing me by their unauthorised activities.
Does anyone think I can legally challenge them ?

Please restore my faith in human nature and tell me that you are not serious ....

... and that is from someone who has no time at all for NatWest.

You do know the "unauthorised" part of the sentence is yours, ie you went into an unauthorised overdraft.

    God, give me strength.
  • I had a letter last week from Natwest saying they were refunding me some money from an account I had about 2/3 yrs ago which is now closed. I double checked the address in case it was a scam but the address does belong to Natwest. I returned the Letter last week with my bank details, and I know it does say within 28 days but how long have other people waited?
