in Credit cards
Applied for and accepted for 123 credit card yesterday, I asked the woman in the branch if I bought cigarettes at a petrol station along with fuel would I get 3% on the whole transaction or just the fuel. She said I'm not 100% sure but I think it is only the fuel, can anyone tell me if this is true? Can't really see how they could tell what you actually bought with the money, surely the transaction would go through as being from the petrol station and they wouldn't get further details???
If you don't like what I say slap me around with a large trout and PM me to tell me why.

Santander can't say for certain whether transactions at supermarket filling stations will get cashback at 3% or 1%. The only way to find out is to try it and see what appears on your statement.0

It's strange, Santander have a website (can't remember the address though, sorry) that lists all the places and whether you get 3%, 2% or 1%.
AA do something similar (double points on motoring purchases) and state they use the merchants 'classification id' to determine this. So it doesn't matter what petrol station you use, you always get the double points.
I don't know why Santander don't?0 -
Santander also use the Merchant Category Code (MCC) to determine the level of cashback - but you can't see the MCC on their statements! The website Gromitt mentions is HERE. I can see Merchant Categories on the online statement for my Capital One Credit card and on that basis I suspect that if I did a grocery only shop at my local Tesco Petrol Filling Station, I would get 3% cashback - and I think Gordon would get 3% on his cigs, but the only way to find out is to try it.0

I use a Shell garage not a supermarket petrol station (Santander's website lists it as a petrol station!), just wondered if buying cigarettes in the same transaction would get cashback or not, 2 of my family smoke but I don't so if it would I'd offer to fetch them for them.If you don't like what I say slap me around with a large trout and PM me to tell me why.
