Taking infant abroad

Hi folks,

The wife and I haven't had a holiday for a good while now due to her being pregnant. Baby was born 6 weeks ago now (2 months prem) and is doing well.

We want to book a holiday abroad for October / November but are unsure about taking a 5 1/2 month abroad. Has anyone done this before, is it recommended or not...

If its possible then any advice on finding a holiday, what to take, what to keep in mind etc.

Very unsure about how this works.

Cheers

Millions of people do it every year. If the baby is breastfeeding it'll be much easier.

Took mine at 4 months to spain, it wasn't too hot, flight not too long and it is very easy if your breastfeeding, ask the hotel for a cot and your sorted, also at that age they do sleep quite a lot.

Took mine at 8.5 weeks and again at 4.5 months on an 8 hour flight. It was fine. Not sure I'd attempt it now he's 2, lol.
Science adjusts its views based on what's observed.
Faith is the denial of observation, so that belief can be preserved.

They're actually easier to take away the younger they are.

BF or a dummy for take-off and landing for their ears. Hopefully will sleep thru on the flight.

Obviously if you are going somewhere hot, keep them in the shade during the day. If you want to do some touring/driving then babies usually sleep well in cars.

You do have to take a bit more stuff, better if they are BF cuts out on the equipment/milk powder. Nappies can pretty much be bought anywhere.

Airline staff are mostly very helpful, you'll get priority boarding. Most hotels/accommodation provide cots on request.

It's really not too difficult, as long as you aren't planning to backpack round some third world country.

Make the most of it now, the older they get the more you need to factor in their needs.

Hi, yes I second all the above. We took our 12 week old triplets on a flight to Florida along with our 6 year old. Was all very easy, as mentioned the younger they are the easier it is as they sleep for most of it. We have since flown with all 6 of our young children(youngest aged 2 now) and flying to Spain in 3 weeks and whilst it is harder to keep them entertained on the flight (as they cant really move about in the aisles to much) it is so worth it when you look back and have these great memories!
We made a decision when we chose to have a family and that was the children would be moulded around our lives, not them changing ours (well, anymore than the usual!!)and it really has paid off. :j
Breast feeding is definatly easier when travelling with babies (hard with triplets but managable!!) if however baby is not breast fed, dont bother taking steam sterilizer and all that, just take an old ice cream tub and sterilising tablets available from chemists (very cheap too) just as effective and so much easier to travel with.
Lots of suncream, parasol (and one for the pushchair), calpol, and a mosquito net to put over cot at night, job done!
Relax and have a great holiday with your family!;)
