Silly question - transfering money

Hi

This may sound like a daft question, but can I transfer money from my bank account to a building society account with an online transfer?

It asks for sort code and account number, but building society accounts are just one long number, so I am not sure how to do it ( if you even can ).

Thank you :)

They will have a sort code and account number. If you haven't got them you can get them by asking your building society. The long account number will be used on your transfer as the roll number.

most saving a/cs will tell you 'ways to pay money in'
and these usually tell you the soet code (6 digits) and account number (8 digits) to use and to use your savings roll number (long number usually) as the reference (a bit confusing as the roll number is often also referred to as an account number)

and of course always do a test transfer first of a few pounds (say £5) to check it out.
