Can anybody recommend some good freeware to schedule the shutdown of my pc. I know how to start the pc up from the BIOS, but I need some easy software so I can shut it down. It's not as simple as shutting down the pc at the same time every day. A couple of the days (while I'm away), I want the pc to shut down at a later time.

Make a batch script with the command "shutdown -s" I think.
Then add a task to your scheduled tasks to run the script.- David0 -
The problem will be deciding the criteria for shutting down the PC. How will you tell the PC this information? Will it change from day-to-day, or week-to-week? An example month or so would help!
In principle Dussed's method will work - but at particular days and times which you will need to specify.0 -
It's just the next week starting tomorrow. I want it to shut down at 9pm, everyday except tomorrow, which I want to shut down at 10pm0

Then you can schedule it per day + time for each day- David0

Yes, as said, just create simple script,
copy / paste this into Notepad and save it as "shutdown.bat"
(leave out the code: bit)%windir%\system32\cmd.exe /x /c Shutdown.exe -s
You can test that it works by double clicking the .bat to run it.
(Close any open progs because it will shut everything down within 30 Seconds)
Then you just need to call that .bat file to shut the pc down.
You can use Windows Task Scheduler which will do it,
or try another little free prog that i use

Run the program, Click on 'New Event'
Event Type:Run Application
Title: Shut Down
Application: the browse for files doesn't appear to work on my 64-bit, so i just type or copy / paste the full path into here, such as:
C:\Users\MyUserName\Desktop\shutdown.bat
That's all that's needed on that Tab, now Click on the 'Schedule' Tab
Change Schedule Type: to 'Every Day / Week'
Choose the days you want it to work for the first time
Choose 'Specific Time' then put in the time you want it to activate
Click on 'Save and Exit'
and that's the first done
Now repeat again for new task changing the days and the 'Specific Time' to suit ..
