Moving to Germany

Hi,
Firstly I'm not sure if I've posted this in the right place, so apologies if I haven't!
I will be moving from South Wales to Germany with my fiance in the next few months and I really don't know where to start looking for international movers, or whether it would be possible for us to just hire a truck and do the move ourselves (OH is an LGV driver).
I'd be grateful for any info or advice that anyone can give me!!!!
Thanks a lot!

Moving countries and I presume starting new job/s is stressful enough as it is so unless you are on a relaxed time window and/or pennies are tight then get in removers. Start calling around removers for quotes and if you have any army friends see who they would suggest.
(It is the packing up that is the real pain, unpacking isn't too bad.)0 -
Don't forget to factor in the cost of your OH returning the van and then making a return trip himself with the DIY route.
Personally, having moved 10 minutes down the road and without a housefull of furniture (only furniture we took was the bed, some huge wardrobes, and collecting a sofa we were gifted for the new house from a colleague), we found it very exhausting doing it all with just the two of us (and the occasional third pair of hands from family). We've both said that next time we'd pay someone else to do it!0 -
When we moved we got everything packed and unloaded in half a day (but it was only 5 minutes away).
We spent the evenings of the week before taking apart all furniture and packing everything into boxes, made it miles simpler and easier.2p off is still 2p off!0 -
I think you may find its just as cheap to get someone to move you rather than doing it yourself. I'm sure a lot of van hire places won't insure you out of the UK plus you have ferry costs and road tolls to add not to mention the cost of returning to the UK and going back to Germany.
Even our little move of Glasgow to Cambridge it was no cheaper for us to hire a van and DIY compared to getting a professional mover to do it after all they will try to move other people at the same time going both ways saving them money.0
