want to get to truro at some point in late august/early september, from bognor regis. returning in 5 days.

can anyone suggest the best place to split the ticket, or any other cheaper ways to go?? would the best bet be to get an off peak return ? (used to be called a monthly saver return).

thanks.

If you go to the National Rail enquiries website HERE enter the details of your journey then select calling points it will show where trains stop and also where you must change and you can work it around from there. Bear in mind that with advance purchase tickets bought you must travel on the train you select which if you are looking for flexibility (you have said any definate dates/times) then maybe getting the off peak return will be better for you.

Quite frequently (and perhaps absurdly) two singles are cheaper.

There are two routes, Bognor - London, then the London - Penzance train to Truro.

The other route is Bognor - Warminster (via Salisbury), meeting the London - Truro train there.

Neither route is great tbh. Not all the London - Penzance trains stop at Warminster.

    Published fares:

£135 off-peak return via London or via Salisbury/Warminster
    £107 super-off-peak return same routing
    £80.50 off-peak return via Salisbury/Warminster only

    Restrictions:
    Off-peak Return
Services timed to depart London Paddington between 0810 and 1640, and from 1801, Mondays to Fridays; also on the 1703 departure from London Paddington (Penzance service) on FRIDAYS ONLY. Anytime weekends.
Return 06:05 or later. Anytime weekends

    Super-off-peak return
On weekday services timed to depart London Paddington between 1003 and 1510, and from 1901. Anytime weekend
Return 07:20 or later Anytime weekends

Possible advance single fares, via London:

    £128
    £105.50
    £83
    £60
    £53.50
    £47.50
    £42
    £36
    £24.50
    £18.50

    Not via London:
    £40
    £28.50
    £25.50
    £23
    £20
    £17
    £14.50

So I would suggest searching for 'via Salisbury' and then comparing the costs/journey times with 'via Slough'.

Two Advance singles will be cheaper on the cheapest trains but unflexible compared with the return tickets.
