I just got back from wetherspoons. I saw The Cloud in my wifi list and my heart sank, but cos I was desperate I tried anyway. It asked me to sign up, which I did, then gave me 24 hours free!

Nope it was not a one off. The Cloud are the wi-fi providers for Wetherspoons. You also get free wi fi access at McDonalds who also use The Cloud
It is great whilst travelling. Much better to get a drink or even a meal rather than pay the extortionate amount your hotel charges for wi fi
