Npower have given me two options - deposit or prepayment meter

Hi all, I was approved a DRO last month. Included in this was my NPower bill as it was over £700 which has been slowly increasing since I received it at the beginning of the year and I was just not able to pay off my usage and extra to clear the debt. Npower have now come back to me to say I have two options, to either pay them a deposit (over £100) which I will have returned to me if I don't miss a direct debit payment over the next 12 months or I can have a prepayment meter. A friend suggested that maybe I should change providers but I don't know if I'd be able to do that? Can anyone give me some advice as to what is best to do, thanks.

I was forced onto prepayment meters before my dro was approved and I'll be totally honest I wish it had been done sooner!! It is much easier to control, you are much more aware of usage ie turnin lights off n not leaving things on stand by plus....no unexpected bills!

If I was in your position I personally would go with the pre payment meters!

  • Thanks caz. I've heard mix opinions on prepayment meters, so wanted to get some advice before I decided what to go with.

That's fair enough! I didn't want them to begin with cos the mess I was in I was worried about running out n not having money but I know how much I need to put on each pay day and that lasts through every time without fail! It's a good way of also knowing you can't fall into debt either as you pay up front! After going through DRO's etc last thing ya want is an unexpected debt again! It's defo one less thing to worry about!
