DLA - review of claim, claimant 72!

Hi, I was talking to a friend today and they happened to mention that her neighbour recently had a medical review for his DLA.
The guy is 72 and has had the award since he was 64,
The strange thing about it is that he didn't receive any forms to review his claim (it is indefinite HRC & HRM).
He just received a letter saying that a doctor from the Medical Services will be calling on him at home with regards to his DLA award.
I have never heard of this before, surely he should have had some review forms to fill in?
Anyhow he is waiting for the result.
I have to admit that he is a bit of a likeable rogue, so not too sure if the current award, made 8 years ago is all genuine!
Do the DWP just go round getting these medical reports as and when and even from those who are in advanced years?

I can confirm that the DWP can review even indefinite DLA awards, no matter how old the claimant. I don't know whether they have to be sent forms to fill in each time.0

Thanks. I agree that they can assess anybody anytime. But at 72 what on earth do they expect? Him running the marathon or maybe playing football?
Some common sense is needed maybe.0 -
Reassessments are random. They don't take into account age. And although you say some common sense is needed, you state in your OP that although the award was made eight years ago, you aren't sure if it is all genuine.
The award should only continue if the person concerned has care and/or mobility needs in line with the rules for getting DLA. If the chap no longer has the same level of need (or didn't have the needs in the first place), the award should not continue. Age doesn't come into it. If it did, everyone in their seventies would be eligible - and whilst many people do get DLA, or more commonly, Attendance Allowance, they have to fulfill the criteria.
If an award is no longer valid, it should no longer be paid.0 -

Yes I agree with all of that. But do wonder why he was never asked to fill in a review form. All he had was a letter saying that someone from the DWP (a doctor) was coming out to assess him.
Besides which surely with the limited resources that the DWP have would it not be better if they used their knowledge of which age group, sex, area, etc would more likely be 'playing the system.0 -

Have to admit that nearly said hi to Andy / Rotoguys / whatever last night but resisted the urge. It would be a damned shame that after all that scoffing about no longer being entitled to or needing DLA due to age and the general FU attitude to the rest suffering with the system that they now get some comeuppance wouldn't it. Good luck Andy, you're going to need it.0

He is... He is being the "daughter" this time
It is obvious to me that despite anyone's feelings on the continual boomerang groundhog day type postings, this person needs help. It is quite sad to see“How people treat you becomes their karma; how you react becomes yours.”0
