DLA & Motability date problem, please help???

Options
Hi, my DLA is for high rate mobility & a care allowance too. I use my high rate mobility to have a motability vehicle.

My problem is this... my current motability vehicle lease ends in April at which point I need to hand my current vehicle back to the dealer. But, my current DLA award ends in July, only 3 months after I have to return my car. This means that I won't have the 12 month award period that you need to get a new motability vehicle.

What should I do? Will DWP reassess my award earlier so that I will have an award of over 12 months from the time I need to return my car? I will be completely isolated without a motability car and I can't afford to buy a car so the scheme has been great for me. Now I am worrying that i won't be able to replace it when I have to return this one.

Hope that makes sense

Have a word with your motability dealer, explain the circumstances and see if they can agree to extend the period by an extra 3 months. The money would still be available to pay for that period in any case. In certain circumstances, I believe they can be flexible.

I believe that motability can extend for up to six months. My son receives HRM and last year we were going through a very busy period and i just didn't get round to swapping the car. I was given a six month extension, which was fantastic.

Your DLA award finishes next July - which will be after the start of PIP. I doubt that they will put you forward for this new benefit at that time, but will expect a shortish re-award, if you are lucky.

Your lease ends in April 2013.

Is it not possible for you to ask the DWP to be put forward as an early case in April 2013 under PIP? That way your award, if you get it, will be for a longer period, hopefully.

Get your DLA renewed earlier that's what we did. Just the DWP up and explain and they will send a new form out.

After 3 years of hiring my car my son only had about a year left on his claim, I wanted to buy the car so wrote DLA a long letter stating why I needed a review, all details about my sons conditions and a list of people they could contact, anything I may of been asked on the form but with lots of explanation. They were fairly quick looking at it and gave him a further 5 year award
  • DLAHRM / PIP implications, the GOV number crunchers reckon a 27% reduction in [working age] eligibility to the Motability scheme. Thats 17% [ish] of the total Motability scheme.

They will extend in certain cases. However it does depend on how high your mileage is at the point of extension.
