Insurance company trying to cancel insurance

Hi,
We have a campervan which we insured through the camping and caravaning club, underwritten by AXA. We took out the policy trough the website, and used another quote to achieve a £25 discount.

We received the documents, and on a phone call they asked for he policy number of our other vehicle so they could prove we had been insured on another vehicle.

I then received a letter, very tersely, asking for the required documents, or our insurance would be cancelled after seven days.

I reviewed all the documents, and at no point did they ask for any documents to be sent.

I have just called them - and they are saying that their price match is only for renewal quotes, not for new owners. They now want me to pay over twice the agreed amount to continue to insure the vehicle.

I've read all the documents - at no point does it request a renewal document or any other information.

Anyone have any idea where I stand? Do I have to accept this or can I fight it? Their stand is that the quote match is only for renewal quotes - and not to match "just any quote". But they have taken our money and have so far been our insurer. We have spoken to them on a previous occasion and none of this was mentioned.

Any help gratefully received!

The blurb on the camping & caravanning club website clearly says that they guarantee to beat renewal quotes by £25, so I'm not sure you can claim you weren't aware.

The offer is clearly to beat your renewal price.

You have missed reading the offer conditions which says:
Club Care may require written evidence of your current motorhome insurer’s renewal price and the level of insurance cover offered (e.g. a copy of your current motorhome renewal notice)

Think you going to have to stump up! (Don't let them cancel your policy as then this will all seem a minor irritation, compared with having to find insurance with a cancelled policy on your record)

"Special rates are offered to members of The Camping and Caravanning Club. What’s more, Club Care guarantees to beat the renewal quote for motorhome insurance from your current insurer by £25 (subject to terms and conditions). You’re sure to be delighted at the cover provided – and the competitive prices."

"Club Care offers to beat your motorhome insurance renewal quote by at least £25, provided that that the quote is on a like for like basis, and subject to a few eligibility criteria, explained below.
Eligibility criteria for Club Care's price beater guarantee
The effective date of your current motorhome insurance renewal quote must be less than 30 days old
The motorhome insurance policy cover must be on a “like for like” basis
Club Care may require written evidence of your current motorhome insurer’s renewal price and the level of insurance cover offered (e.g. a copy of your current motorhome renewal notice)
Your motorhome is not currently insured by Equity Red Star or Groupama Insurance Company Limited.
This exclusive offer is subject to standard underwriting criteria and minimum premiums"

Ok - I didn't do the quote - and my husband has looked at the site and says, yes, it now quite clearly states that - but didn't when he did the quote.... After looking at the site, we couldn't have mistaken it for anything else....

    Any more suggestions

If you are saying they have changed the offer conditions since you took out the policy, then you need to complain about this and ask the club to confirm the website offer has changed.

Then follow the insurers complaints procedure, escalating the matter if you aren't satisfied with the replies you get.

Bear in mind the stakes - if you are mistaken, then you will have a cancelled policy on your record to disclose for evermore, which will preclude you from virtually all mainline insurers (all insurers ask about cancelled policies, not just motor).

Ok - thanks Quentin. We'll try that route
