Cash or Travelers Cheques?

My Daughter is off to Greece on holiday. Given the current situation over there is it best for her to take Euros in Cash or Travellers cheque?

Can't imagine how TCs would be useful - they are a pain at the best of times.

I would keep doing the usual but carry some extra GBP to exchange in case of emergency and try to keep any Euro bought in advance in small notes.

I have one of those cash passports. You can keep euros on them for up to 14 months and means you dont have to carry lots of cash, and ATMs are usually easy enough to find. Or depending on bank fees you could even get euros cash on a UK card. We came back from Eastern med cruise last week doing several Greek places and were told that right now they're much more after cash than plastic than they have been

Last time we went, we got the best rates by exchanging sterling for Euros when there from the local money changers. Depends on how much cash she wants to take though.

Part cash and part Traveller's Cheques should be a saver option:)
  • Thanks for sharing your opinions, we are talking smallish amounts so will probably go down the cash route just to save on the hassle for her.
  • I'd ask her to take Euros and pick them up at the airport AFTER you have prebooked them online for the best rate.
