I've had a strange phone call

Well the phone only rang once or twice then stopped, but the other end hasn't hung up so my home phone is stuck.

It's not a number I recognise, and I'm unsure exactly what to do?

Does anyone have a suggestion?

Is there a beep every so often? If so, then it could be a fax machine trying to get through. Failing that, can you google the number?

Wait a few more minutes. If it's a marketing or sales call then they'll be wanting to call someone else soon so they'll disconnect.

If it's still like that in, say, half an hour, phone your service provider (e.g. BT) from your mobile (if you've got one - I assume you have) and ask for their advice.

There's no beep so fax machine seems unlikely.

Will wait as Fluffnutter suggests (love that name and all the great cat pictures - particularly enjoyed the recent cat with the red hair!) and then call phone provider - yes I do have a mobile, currently charging it's battery.

Could you disconnect the phone from the wall and see if that unjams it? Other than that use a mobile and call your phone provider. They may be able to sort it all out for you.

yup, unplug the phone at the wall (the phone socket not the plug socket) after a few moments it will disconnect.

    Well the mystery is solved.

The caller was M&S calling to confirm a delivery.....in August!!!

would have been nice if they would have just put down the phone when they finished the call.

All sorted now, but thank you to all who gave advice. I was going to do the unplugging at the wall thing but the line eventually cleared.

I thought it was going to be one of those scam things - unsure how it would be a scam but you just never know. Think I'm too suspicious at times.

Have a good evening either watching or avoiding the football.
