Hi
Try recreatekitchens.co.uk
I don't think they do worktops but they respray your original kitchen units etc.

The B&Q upstands in this kitchen have rotted very quickly next to my sink. It may be the combination of the upstand and a tall mixer tap but I wouldn't advise getting upstanders near the sink. It's not just where the sealant is either, it's where there's two seperate pieces of laminate on the 90 degree angle at the top, iyswim. You can make your own statement with tiles anyway.
As long as the worktop is sealed properly, I don't think it will matter who supplies it. B&Q often have offcuts of worktop which might fit some of your runs for a bit less than their usual price even! It's also not hard to find a damaged one on the main shelf that needs discounting(I got a hardwood exterior door lining for £5 the other day - otherwise nearly £50!)
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

Can I just say, my very ethically aware friend has told me that most of the granite for kitchen work tops is quarried by children in India so really check your sources - some things just aren't worth itJust call me Nodwah the thread killer0

Or at least they shouldnt sell directly to the public.
depends where you go,some howdens do sell to the public0 -
Trouble is it would still cost us £998 for 12m worth which was really more than I had budgeted.
The screxfix laminates are comparable to the b and q ones - are they better quality?
I believe that B&Q actually own screwfix (they are both part of the kingfisher group), so would assume that they actually source many of their products with the same suppliers..0 -
Still dwelling on the worktops issue. I wonder if anyone has any experience of the wooden worktops from ikea?0

Can I ask what style & colour the doors are going to be?
& the floor?0 -

The kitchen itself is already in situ. I don't know too much about it as it was fitted by the previous owners of our house but it is solid wood (beech?) and very good quality - very plain too.
We are just trying to give the kitchen a facelift as their taste in floor covering and tiles was a bit dated.
The floor is going to be either cera casa milos tiles in anthracita (so greeny black) or honed limestone in a blueish colour - not sure which yet. Obviously the floor is not going to be total bargain basement - I think in the region of £35-£50 per square meeting plus fitting. This is replacing current arrangement of wood laminate in kitchen and green carpet tiles in eating area through an archway, but to my mind part of the same room. (We have a separate dining room too.)
We have ordered replacement wall tiles - they are glazed and a mixture of colours, one is green to go with the green range cooker already in situ. They were very fashionable a few years ago and have been heavily discounted. I still like them though.
I suppose ideally I'd like a granite worktop, but just can't justify the cost for what is supposed to be a cheapy revamp. As we have 12m of worktop I think realistically we are looking in the region of £3K for that. At the same time my OH is whinging that if we are going to do anything we should it properly and doesn't fancy b and q laminate. The current worktop is a dodgy beige laminate- it has a kind of raised basket weave effect and is impossible to get clean. It also has a big ugly burn in it.(They covered this up with a kettle when we viewed the house!)0 -
If you have wood doors then you really can't have a wood worktop, so black is perhaps the best bet. If you don't want to fit granite then just get a cheap one to do till you are ready to do it to last & I have a B&Q upstand with their worktop & I have NO ROT behind the sink, but I do wipe it after using.
I think wood doors & a black worktop would look great with a black floor or even a netural (cream or white) floor. The most important thing is I think to link the floor & wall tiles. So do the floor the same as one of the colours you are using on the wall tiles? Also looks good if they are the same shape, ie both square - walls small squares & floor large squares or rectangular or what ever.
Lighting can also dress a room up, if it doesn't have under cabinet light can I suggest you find a nice plinth & fit this and perhaps recessed spots in the ceiling.
New handles (be careful of the hole spaces) can also look good.
And a funky tap & sink, Ikea do a good (cheap) range, you will get sink & funky tap for £200.
Screwfix is great for new electric socket covers, the new black or chrome flat style low profile ones look nice in kitchens.
