Cheap TV's

A friend brought a new TV a few weeks ago and he came back from Majorica yesterday - very brown, 80f apparently :D, and he said they had seen the same make and model of the TV he'd just brought in the uk was but £100 less.

I'm looking for a new 2nd TV and I'm off to the Balerics  in a couple of weeks and I was wondering about buying a TV whilst I was out there, other than changing the plug, would it work?

Can't think of any reason technically - AFAIK DVB-T in Spain is to the same standards as the UK, though the set will probably be regionalised (i.e. by default the menus will probably be in Spanish). That should be easy to change.

However, what would you do if it stopped working after a few months? Some manufacturers have international warranties, but many don't.

How would you get it back? The cost of doing do would eat into any saving you make.

Has he given you links to compare with? In my experience electrical goods don't tend to be cheaper on the continent. I'd want to check out his story for myself before making plans. Plus bagand96 has a very good point about getting it back...

You might save yourself a bit now, but it could easily be damaged on the way back - baggage handlers are not gentle even with things marked fragile. Personally I suspect that the size of the tv and weight would counteract any savings you may make, no good just putting it in your suitcase to be thrown around! And if it went wrong there could well be a problem with the guarantee.

I would only go to the trouble of doing this if the article was about a tenth of the original price, unless there is an international warranty.
