Diesel in France

Last time we drove a diesel car in France, we ordered a petrol car but had to take a diesel, I calculated we had saved £75 over a two week period on fuel used which came as a very pleasant surprise.
So we will be driving a diesel car again from this Saturday.

But iirc there was a choice at the pumps in France of diesel or gas oil with gas oil being a lot cheaper.

Is gas oil the same as diesel and is it ok using it instead of diesel???

I know the relationship between the price of petrol and diesel has changed but thought we'd give diesel another go.

    .

In all the time I have driven in France I have NEVER seen any pumps talking about diesel - they all say gazole - which means diesel in English!

I actually saw a sign saying Diesel in France on Saturday! I was surprised. I saw the sign not far from Etaples. Just remembered this thread when I saw it.

    Funny that innit.

Having just come back from the Luberon and the surrounding area I'd say it was 50/50 between gazole and diesel.

In fact the hire car had diesel written in yellow next to the filler cap.

Two types of diesel possible denoted by the different colours of the sign at the pumps.

:eek:Really, I will be taking a diesel over for the first time on Friday. What is the difference between the two types?

IIRC then apart from the difference in price one is sans sulpher, that's the more expensive one.
